Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the set-up fee of $25 an annual or monthly fee?
No, the $25 setup fee is a one time fee.

 

2. After I set up my account my balance shows $0, why doesn't the $25 that I used to set up the account show up?
The $25 setup fee is only for set up. To search for properties you will need to add funds to your account. You can do this once you are logged in. Then click on "Manage Account" at the top of the page. After that just click "Add Funds to Account".

 

3. When I set up my account, can I use the routing number on my deposit slip?
No, use the nine digit number on the bottom of your check. Sometimes the routing numbers on a deposit slip are not the same as the number on your check.

 

4. Do you take credit cards for payment?
Unfortunately at this time we do not take credit cards.

 

5. Do you have examples of what I might find on the system?
Yes we do, click here to go to the About section of our website.

 

6. What resolution is the Minnehaha County Property Information System website best viewed at?
The best resolution is 1024 x 768 and higher. 800 x 600 is viewable, but scrollbars will show.

 

7. How do I change my resolution?
Click on Start, click on the Control Panel, and then click on Display. At the top of the Display Properties box, click on the Settings Tab. On the bottom right area there is a section called Screen Area. By moving the arrow to the left will make your screen smaller. By moving the arrow to the left will make your screen larger. Click Ok to keep the resolution to the setting of your choice.

 

8. Do you have pictures of property on the website or viewable deed information?
No, we currently do not at this time. An example of what can be found on the site can be seen here.

 

9. Why is the legal description not listed?
The legal descriptions are now listed. For some properties, they will show up under the Description Tab in the Legal Description area. Other properties legal description will be listed under the Description Tab in the Subdivision description area.

 

10. I'm looking for information about a property but do not want to sign up for this service, what are my options?
If you are looking for tax information, we do have a website that lists the taxes. You can also pay your taxes on this website if you would like. Minnehaha County Property Tax Site. If you are looking for more information that what is shown on that site you can contact the Director of Equalization office. Located at 413 N. 11. Where can I find the assessed value?
The assessed value is listed under the Tax History tab, described as Non-Ag and Value and Non-Ag Build Value or described as Ag-Land Value and Ag-Build Value.

 

12. How do you determine the number of plumbing fixtures? Some houses have 10.5 fixtures, how does each one count? And what is a .5 fixture?
Generally, each fixture (toilet, sink) is considered 1. These have water coming and going from them. The .5 is almost always considered a water heater.  If you have any questions, you can call the Director of Equalization office at (605) 367-4228.

 

13. Does this site show what a property sold for? No, we do not have selling prices listed on our website. An example of what can be found on the site can be seen here.

 

14. How can I customize what I print out in the Tax History area?
When trying to print out specific information, high-light the information with your mouse. Right click and select Print. In the Print Range section, pick Selection and click the OK button.

 

15. Does the data contain information on available building eligibilities in rural areas?
No, we do not have information on the website about building eligibilities.
