Property Tax Payment Site: Treasurer, Pam Nelson

Online Payment Information

Is paying my property tax bill online safe?

Making payments online is actually safer and more dependable than paying by mail.

How quickly will my payment be withdrawn from my bank account?

Payments received before 7:00 p.m.EST will be processed the following business day. All payments received after 7:00 p.m. EST will be processed in two business days.

Why can't I use a credit card?

For each purchase made with a credit card, Minnehaha County must pay discount and transaction fees to our Merchant Account Provider. In order to cover these costs and process credit card payments, the County must charge a fee to customers who choose to use a credit card payment option. The credit card fees are based on a percentage of the total amount of the payment. Therefore, the charges for processing large transactions such as property tax payments would be very high for customers and Minnehaha County . The charges for processing an online check are based on a flat fee per check, making it a very cost-effective option for handling large payments. Thus, online checks are the best solution for allowing large payments over the Internet while keeping taxpayer costs down.

How do I know that my payment was made?

After completing the payment process, a confirmation page with a corresponding confirmation number will be displayed. You're encouraged to print this page for your records. Additionally, we'll send you the same information by e-mail within one hour of your transaction.

Why is my e-mail address required on the payment page?

We use an e-mail to give you a final confirmation of your payment or to let you know if there was a problem processing your payment. We'll only use your e-mail address for confirmation. Minnehaha County will not sell or distribute your e-mail information to outside parties.

What is the confirmation number?

Your personal confirmation number is very important. You'll need the confirmation number to access Payment Tracker, which follows your property tax payment process. After making a payment, your confirmation number appears on the final screen. You'll also receive the confirmation number by e-mail within an hour. For your records, we suggest you print one or both of these pages containing the confirmation number.

Can I pay my property taxes in installments?

There are two installment payments allowed. The first installment is due April 30 and the second is due October 31. Each installment must be paid in full. You can pay both installments during the first installment period in April. You can't pay the second installment online if the first is not paid, and you can't pay late payments online.

Is there a certain time when I can't pay my taxes online?

Payments will not be accepted after their respective deadlines of April 30 and October 31.

What is the deadline for submitting a payment online?

The date printed on the confirmation page is recognized as the date of payment. Payment may be made up until 11:59 p.m. on the date payment is due.
